LiveVideo - Frequently Asked Questions

What video files do you accept?

Mp4 works best and uploaded video should be 500 MB or less. 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 are the accepted aspect ratios. You can read more about video file requirements in this article.

Where does auto-play work?

Not all email clients that support embedded video will allow videos to autoplay. Autoplay is supported in Outlook 2011 for macOS, and Apple Mail 4 or later. Autoplay is not supported on iPhone, or Android devices. On iPad, autoplay is only supported when the video is set as muted.

Why isn't my video working in MailChimp?

If you use MailChimp, you might find that the video does not play as expected. This is due to MailChimp stripping the video portion of the tag but there's a workaround:

  1. Copy and paste the LiveVideo embed code in your template.

  2. Without performing any edits, save the region in MailChimp.

  3. Do not re-open the region containing the LiveVideo embed code.

  4. If you accidentally re-open the region, repeat steps 1-3.

Why am I seeing the words "Live Broadcast" on my video?

Earlier versions of Apple Mail for Mac assume the video is a live broadcast and display these words on the control bar. This is necessary for the video to work correctly on devices running Monterey and later.

Why am I seeing a blank space when using custom-sized video?

In the LiveVideo element, when the custom-sized option is selected in Basic Settings, it can occur that in certain templates a blank space is seen underneath the element. In order to solve this, you need to wrap the video in a <table>, as shown in the example below:

Copy
<td>
<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="640">
<tr>
<td>
/* Liveclicker embed code */
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>

Will the video play when using an ad blocker?

The simple answer is no, when a video is opened on web based email client and the subscriber is using an ad blocker, the video or animated GIF will not display. It's not possible to work around this limitation as ad blockers work by blocking commercials from every media player in your browser.

Why isn't my video playing in Outlook for Mac?

In Outlook for Mac, subscribers see the HTML poster image, which is usually the first frame of the video. They can right-click to play the video. Also, some versions of Outlook for Mac display the control bar some pixels up from the expected button position. Unfortunately, neither the control buttons nor the fullscreen button will work if this happens.

Why isn't my video displaying in the Outlook app when in landscape mode?

When playing a LiveVideo on the Outlook app in landscape mode, the video won't be visible.

Why is my video rendering as a whitespace in Outlook365 for Mac?

There is a workaround for @outlook and @hotmail domains, please contact support for assistance. Please keep in mind that this fix will only apply to exchange accounts and when the fix is applied, subscribers will be presented with the animated or static fallback image.
