Here's a brief video to get you started.

Use Case Steps

Offers are a powerful feature that allow marketers to present promotions, discounts, and special deals to Members. Targeted Offers, in particular, are designed to reach specific Members who meet a set of predefined conditions, defined by means of a Segment.

This article describes how to create a Coupon Offer for a free product, targeted to a specific segment of your customers, usable only within a defined time period and if the customer meets a minimum spending threshold.

Use Case: Cooper and Madison want to reward high-value customers and frequent or recent buyers with a free appetizer that can be redeemed within 7 days after issuance. The offer is only valid with a minimum spent of $15.

  1. Select Campaigns from the top navigation bar, then select Offers > Offers from the side navigation menu. The Offers screen is displayed.

  2. Search for the Offer template named: TEMPLATE_Item_Discount_Free. You can search for this specific template by entering its name in the Search field at the top.

  3. Next to the Offer template, click the Copy icon.

  1. The platform creates a copy of the Offer and displays the Offer Details screen with the Definition tab selected. The default name of the new Offer is the name of the base template followed by a counter, such as "(1)."

  2. On the Definition tab, in the Offer Details section, update the Display Name to reflect your Offer purpose, and optionally enter a description in the Description field.

  3. By default, Offer templates are assigned to the Template Offer Category, and assigned the Tag value of Template. Offer Categories are used to organize Offers, often for controlling what Offers get displayed on your website or app. Tags are intended to make it easier to search for the base templates within your Loyalty Essentials account. When you copy a template, the best practice recommendation is to remove these default Category and Tag assignments in the copied Offer. In the Categories field, click the X icon next to Template. Likewise, in the Tag field, click the X icon next to Template. Optionally, you can assign your own Offer Category and / or Tag value to the new Offer.

  4. Click Save.

  1. When copying an object, the recommended best practice is to update the object's Internal Name so as to avoid any duplicate name issues if you copy this object again in the future. At the bottom of the Offer Details section, click Show More to display additional fields.

  1. Click the Lock icon next to the Internal Name field to make the field editable. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click OK.

  1. In the Internal Name field, enter a new value. The Internal Name must be unique and can not include any special characters or spaces; only numbers, letters, and underscores are allowed. Do not change the Internal Name once the Offer is published.

  2. Click Save.

  1. Within the Definitions tab, scroll down to the Coupon and Qualifying Rules section. Click this section header to expand it.

From the base template that you cloned, the Coupon Type is set to Item Discount and the Discount Type is set to Free. This configuration will allow the Member to receive a free item. Leave these options as set in the template.

  1. To define the minimum spending threshold, in the Minimum Subtotal field, enter 15.0.

  2. To limit the free item to a product category, next to Qualify Based On, select Product Category.

From the base template that you cloned, Qualify By is set to Inclusion. This configuration allows you define the list of valid items (as opposed to defining a list of invalid items). Leave this option as set in the template.

Also in the base template that you cloned, a "placeholder" PLU is listed in the table. You will need to edit this to reflect the correct Product Category.

  1. Next to the placeholder PLU, click the Edit icon. The Edit Qualifying Product pop-up window is displayed.

  1. In the Identifier field, enter Appetizer. From the Level drop-down menu, select Primary Item, then click Save.

  1. Click Save.

  1. Within the Definitions tab, scroll down to the Effectivity Periods section. Click this section header to expand it.

  2. Beneath Usage Period, from the drop-down menu, select Relative.

  3. For the start time, enter 0 and select Minute. For the end time, enter 7 and select Days. This configuration limits the use of the Offer to the seven days after the Member claims the Offer.

Note: If Members have a preferred location set within their Profile, the time zone for that location can be used; check Preferred Location Time Zone to enable this feature.

  1. Click Save.

  1. Select the Eligibility tab.

  1. Beneath Included Segments, from the drop-down menu, select Template: High Value Customers. This Segment contains the conditions used to define your high value customers.

  1. Click Add Segment. The selected Segment is displayed beneath Included Segments.

  2. Repeat the above steps to also add the Template: Frequent Buyers Segment and the Template: Recent Buyers Segment to this Offer. When finished, all three selected Segments will appear beneath Included Segments.

Note: When you select multiple Included Segments, a Member has to be selected by only one of the Segments to be eligible for the Offer. That is, multiple Included Segments are joined with an OR operator.

  1. Scroll up to the Offer header area. Click into the image area, and upload a new image from your local PC.

  1. To publish the Offer, from the Status drop-down menu in the Offer header area, select Publish. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Confirm.

High-value customers, as well as recent and frequent buyers who spend a minimum of $15, are eligible for a free appetizer that they need to claim seven days after it has been issued.
