Configure a Reward: Physical Product

This article describes the configuration options available within the Physical Product Reward type. This Reward type allows a Member to spend a prescribed number of Metrics in exchange for a physical product.

The Physical Product Reward type optionally utilizes Reward Classes. A Reward Class allows you to define custom fields (called Attributes) that describe your products. For each Attribute in the Reward Class, you can define a set of valid values (called Domain Values). You can also define the default Domain Value.

For example, let's say you sell t-shirts with the following options:

  • Color: Red and blue

  • Size: Small, Medium, and Large

You could define a Reward Class called “T-Shirts” with the above two Attributes – Color and Size. The Color Attribute would have two Domain Values (“red” and “blue”). Likewise, the Size Attribute would have three Domain Values (“Small,” “Medium,” and “Large”). Then, within the Reward configuration, you could define the valid combinations of these two Attributes, and assign each combination its own Metric cost, SKU, and image. For example, a “Small red” shirt costs 50 Points, and is SKU 1356.

Note: Reward Classes must be configured by your Zeta team. Please speak with your team for more information.

This article assumes that you have already created a Reward by either copying a Reward template, or by creating a new Reward from scratch.

The Definition tab of the Reward Details screen is used to configure the properties and details of this Reward. The tab includes several sections, each of which is described below.

Reward Details

Within the header area of the screen, you can configure the following properties of the Reward:

  • Thumbnail Image: Click Upload to browse to an image file on your local PC. Select the desired image, then click Open. Please note that the thumbnail image is not used within the Reward content that gets configured on the Content Editor.

The Reward Details section contains many high-level properties about the Reward:

  • Display Name: The name of the Reward as displayed throughout the platform. When copying a Reward template, this value will automatically be the name of the template followed by an incremental counter, such as “(1).”

  • Description: A description of the Reward.

  • Reward Type: If you copied a Reward template, this field is automatically populated with the Reward Type of the base Reward template; you may optionally select a different option. If you change the Reward Type, the configuration properties displayed on the Reward Details screen will update accordingly.

  • Required Metric: Enter the number of Metrics the Member must spend in order to claim this Reward. From the drop-down menu, select the desired Metric.

  • Categories: Reward Categories are used to organize Rewards, often for controlling what Rewards get displayed on your website or app. From this drop-down menu, optionally select one or more Reward Categories to assign to this Reward.

  • Tag: Tags are used to help search, filter, and organize objects within the platform. To reuse an existing Tag, begin typing all or part of the Tag name, and select it. You can also type in a new Tag value.

The following additional configuration options are available for this Reward type:

  • Fulfillment Type: Select how the physical product will be fulfilled:

    • Manual: A platform end-user will need to navigate to the Reward Details screen and identify the new Reward Redemptions that require a physical product.

    • CSV: The new Reward Redemptions requiring a physical product will be automated into a regular export.

  • Reward Classes: Optionally, select one or more Reward Classes.

The following fields are available by clicking the Show More link at the bottom of the Reward Details section.

  • Internal Name: This field is automatically populated based on the Display Name value. This field is disabled by default. To edit the Internal Name, click the lock icon to make the field editable. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click OK. The Internal Name must be unique and can not include any special characters or spaces; only numbers, letters, and underscores are allowed.

Note: The recommended best practice is to change the Internal Name when you initially copy an Reward, in order to avoid issues with duplicate Internal Name values. After this initial change, you should not edit the Internal Name again. Never edit the Internal Name after you publish the Reward.

Requirements

The Requirements section is optionally used to configure any validations required when a Member redeems this Reward.

  • Shipping Address: Check this option if Members must provide their shipping address when redeeming this Reward.

  • Verify Address: If you checked Shipping Address, check this option to validate the shipping address.

  • In Store: Check this option if the product will be available for purchase in a physical location. Instead of a shipping address, values for certain Attributes (defined below) must be provided.

  • Required Attributes: If you checked In Store, select one or more Attributes defined for the Reward Class you selected above in the Reward Details section. The Member must provide these Attribute values when redeeming the Reward.

Combinations

The Combinations section is optionally used to define valid combinations of Attributes, and to assign SKUs, images, and Redemption costs for each combination. The available Attributes are defined as part of the Reward Class you selected above in the Reward Details section. Once you assign a Reward Class to the Reward, you can define combinations. For example, let's say you offer a t-shirt with the following two Attributes:

  • Color: Valid values are "red" and "blue"

  • Size: Valid values are "small," "medium," and "large"

By combining these two Attributes, you can enter up to six valid combinations (small red, small blue, medium red, and so on). For each combination, you can define a unique SKU, Metrics required to redeem, and an image.

  1. Select an Attribute from the drop-down menu.

  2. Click Add Attribute. The platform adds this Attribute to the grid.

  3. Repeat the above steps as needed. When you add an Attribute, the platform automatically calculates and displays all permutations of the selected Attribute, and all previously selected Attributes. Each combination of values is displayed as a row in the grid.

Note: Be sure to add all the desired Attributes before continuing with the next steps. Any custom Amount and SKU values, or custom images, will be removed if you add or delete Attributes.

  1. The default Amount values for each combination are applied. The Amount represents the number of Metric points that the Member must spend in order to gain this particular product. To edit the amount for a given combination of Attribute values, click the Edit icon within the desired cell in the grid. The Edit Values pop-up window is displayed. Enter the desired Metric amount in the Amount field. From the Metric Name drop-down menu, select the Metric. Click Save.

  2. The default SKU values for each combination are applied. The SKU represents the product identifier for this particular product. To edit the SKU for a given combination of Attribute values, click the Edit icon within the desired cell in the grid. The Edit Values pop-up window is displayed. Enter the desired SKU value in the SKU field. Click Save.

  3. To edit the image for a combination of Attribute values, click the Edit icon within the desired cell in the grid. The Edit Values pop-up window is displayed. Click Choose File, and browse to and select the desired image file. Click Save.

  4. Optionally, to remove an Attribute, click the Delete icon within the header row for that Attribute. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Confirm.

  5. Optionally, to rebuild the grid of Attribute combinations, click Rebuild.

Effectivity Period

Rewards are governed by an overall Effectivity Period that controls when, and for long, the Reward is visible to Members on your website or app.

In addition to the overall Effectivity Period for the Reward, the platform allows you to set more granular schedules that control when a Member can respond to the Reward (called the Response Period), and when a Member can use the Reward (called the Usage Period).

See Define Reward Operational Ranges for more information.
