Deploy Segment Metadata

After making any of the following types of changes to a Segment, you must deploy metadata for the changes to take effect. This process pushes the changes to the Loyalty server, making them available for use across the platform.

  • Publishing a new Segment.

  • Editing any aspect of a Published Segment.

  • Deleting a Published Segment.

  • Archiving a Published Segment.

The platform allows you to deploy metadata from either the Segments screen, or from the Segment Details screen.

Deploy Metadata from the Segments Screen

To deploy metadata from the Segments screen:

  1. Select Members from the top navigation bar, then select Segments from the side navigation menu. The Segments screen is displayed.

  2. If your account has modified Segments that haven't yet been deployed, a warning message is displayed at the top of the Segments screen. Optionally, within this warning message, click the Show diff link. The platform displays a pop-up window, showing the difference between the deployed and un-deployed Segments, so that you can see all the changes that will go into effect when you deploy metadata. When finished reviewing the differences, click Close.

  1. You can deploy metadata immediately, but the best practice is to validate the Segment logic before deploying metadata to ensure no incorrect expression code gets deployed to the server that could cause issues. From the Actions menu in the top-right corner of the Segments screen, select Validate Segments Metadata. The Validation Result pop-up window is displayed. If the validation step passes, a message is displayed reading: "Segments Metadata is valid." If the validation step fails, an error message is displayed; review and correct your Segment expressions, then retry the validation step.

  1. If you validated metadata as described in the previous step, within the Validation Result pop-up window, click Deploy Segments Metadata. Otherwise, from the Actions menu in the top-right corner of the Segments screen, select Deploy Segments Metadata. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Confirm.

  1. If the deployment was successful, a message is displayed reading: "Segments metadata as been deployed."

Deploy Metadata from the Segment Details Screen

To deploy metadata from the Segment Details screen:

  1. Select Members from the top navigation bar, then select Segments from the side navigation menu. The Segments screen is displayed.

  2. Search for and select the desired Segment (see Search for a Segment for more information on the available search options). The Segment Details screen is displayed. By default, the Rules tab is selected for EDP and Golden Record Segments, and the Results tab is selected for External Segments.

  3. If your account has modified Segments that haven't yet been deployed, a warning message is displayed at the top of the Segment Details screen. From within this message, click Click here to deploy now. Note that this method will deploy metadata for all Segments, not just for the Segment you are currently viewing.

  1. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Confirm.

  2. If the deployment was successful, a message is displayed that reads, "Segments metadata has been deployed."
