Overlay Accessibility Improvements + Global Overlay Exclusions
Available to all customers
Background
Overlays are a great tool for acquisition and engagement on your website. Ensuring that overlays are accessible and relevant is critical to effective promotion, communication, and customer connection. What’s new
Overlays are getting an upgrade to help you reach not just more people, but the right people, in the right ways.
Accessibility Enhancements
- Modal ARIA roles
Users who rely on screen readers clearly understand when a popup opens and what it is about. - Focus trapping
Keyboard users stay inside the popup while it’s open, which prevents confusion and makes navigation easier. - Form assistance
Users can easily tell which fields must be filled out before submitting a form and clearly hear or see what needs to be fixed if there’s an error. Upon form submission, an audible confirmation message (like “Thank you”) is triggered. - Improved semantic structure across overlay elements
Content is more organized and easier to understand for screen reader and keyboard users.
For more information, see the Accessible Visual Overlays documentation.
Global URL Exclusions
- Save time and gain more control
Set Global Exclusions within your Business Settings that apply to all overlays automatically. No need to manually exclude the same URLs each time. - Define universal URL patterns
Maintain a positive customer experience with minimal conversion interruption by consistently preventing popups on important pages like checkout or login.
For more information on setting a Global Exclusion, see the Global Overlay Settings documentation.
