Background
As subscribers increasingly expect real‑time, conversational interactions, brands that continue to push one-sided messages to customers risk losing them to more interactive brands. Enabling conversational SMS ensures Sailthru customers can meet these expectations and retain audiences that rely on SMS as an engagement channel. Two‑way SMS transforms static alerts into real conversations, helping brands deepen engagement, boost response rates, and strengthen loyalty.
Solution
Sailthru brings two‑way SMS to life through Lifecycle Optimizer, allowing marketers to build automated, personalized conversations at scale.
Using SMS keyword wait steps, brands can listen for subscriber replies, match them to defined keywords, and automatically branch each journey based on the customer’s response. Every branch can trigger tailored actions—sending follow‑up messages, updating profile fields, or continuing the conversation with additional keyword logic—creating a seamless, dynamic experience that drives deeper engagement and loyalty.

Multi-Promo available across channels
Giving you more flexibility, efficiency, and scale, a new Promotions system is now available across Email and Push/In-app channels. With Multi-promo, you can:
- Add up to 3 promotions per email template
- Assign up to 3 codes from any promotion per message
- Configure improved refill reminders (global or per promotion)
- Rely on upgraded infrastructure designed for better performance at scale
- Configure across:
- HTML Email templates (up to 3 codes)
- Visual Email templates (Email Composer – up to 3 codes)
- Email Campaign Builder (Regular, Recurring, and A/B –3 codes)
- Push / In-App templates and campaigns (up to 3 codes)
Campaigns automatically inherit promotions from the selected template, helping reduce setup errors.
The legacy system continues to operate as usual but you’ll now have the choice to create ‘Multi-promo’ or use the ‘Legacy’ option. In time, legacy promotions will go away, so we encourage you to start enjoying the benefits of these new promotions today.
Important notes:
- Maximum 3 promotions per email template
- Promotion code length limit: 64 characters
- Default pool size: 2 million codes (contact Support for higher limits)
- If a required promotion runs out of codes during a send, the send will halt
Existing templates using {promotion.code} will continue to work. For new Multi-promo templates, use {promotions(0).code}
