Getting Started with Member Metrics

Overview

Within the Loyalty platform, Metrics serve as the "currency" for your loyalty membership program. Typically, Members earn Metrics based on their purchases or interaction, and these Metrics are saved to the Member's Profile. The Member can then spend, or redeem, their Metrics in exchange for rewards like discounts, free products, exclusive experiences, or other incentives. Earned Metrics and the program benefits they unlock encourage repeat business and strengthen brand loyalty.

Metric Types

The platform supports several Metric Types, which are designed to support a variety of marketing use cases and loyalty program strategies. While many loyalty programs utilize only a single Metric, the platform allows you to have multiple Metrics, of different types. The available Metric Types are as follows:

  • Point: The most common Metric Type, used for earnings and redemptions.

  • Activity: Tracks actionable items, such as visits or engagement.

  • Duration: Measures how long a Member engages with your app.

  • Distance: Tracks distance traveled or proximity to a location.

  • Spend: Tracks the amount spent by the Member.

If you have multiple Metrics defined in your Loyalty account, one of them must be designated the Primary Metric. You can make this designation on the Deployments screen.

Configuring Metrics

Some loyalty programs let Members immediately redeem their earned Metrics for available rewards. However, other programs may prefer to delay the ability for Metrics to be redeemed. Instead of earned Metrics being available right away, they are placed in a "pending" status. For example, a brand that allows Members to return purchased items may want to delay Metric usage in order to reduce the risk of return fraud, or to eliminate complications that arise from redeeming value from returned items after the Metrics were already spent. For more information on this feature, see the Pending Metrics Setup Guide.

You can configure Metrics to expire if the Member fails to redeem them within a certain time period. The platform supports several methods of calculating and managing Metric expiration. For more information on this feature, see the Point Expiration User Guide.

You can enable Metrics to work with the platform's household feature. This feature groups together multiple Members in the same family for the purpose of sharing loyalty membership benefits, such as pooling their Metrics.

Earning and Managing Metrics

The platform provides several different mechanisms for controlling when Members accrue Metrics, and how many Metrics they gain.

  • Manual Adjustments: From the Member Profile screen, a Customer Service Representative can manually adjust a Member's Metric balance by adding or deducting Metrics. See Adjust Member Metrics for more information.

  • Earn Rule: Earn Rules specify how Members earn Metrics for different Activity Types. Earn Rules are typically used by clients who have an "earn and burn" style program, in which Members make purchases in order to earn Metrics. Members can then spend those Metrics on Rewards, or to make other purchases. See Earn Rules for more information.

  • Order Rule: Order Rules calculate the Metrics that a Member accrues upon making a purchase. An Order Rule includes a standard formula for calculating Metric accrual based on the value of the purchase. In addition, an Order Rule can optionally have one or more bonus rules to calculate additional Metrics that a Member can earn, but only if the order meets certain conditions. See Getting Started with Order Rules for more information.

From the Member Metrics screen, you can view information about all the Metrics defined in your Loyalty account. You can also create new Member Metrics from this screen. To access the Member Metrics screen, select Program from the top navigation bar, then select Member Metrics from the side navigation menu.
